FREEZER MEALS

When you live in a small, rural area with limited public transportation and limited grocery delivery, it is difficult to eat nutritiously or to keep the pantry stocked.

RSVP wants to provide senior and disabled citizens who cannot access other meal programs because of age or income level, the alternative of obtaining frozen, home-cooked meals.  RSVP volunteers cook, package, and freeze these meals so each client can receive up to seven meals, one day each week.  Some meals are picked up by the client, the client's family, or when available, delivered by a volunteer.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

  • Seniors (60 years of age and older) or disabled persons who do not drive or do not have any other form of transportation.
  • You have difficulty or are unable to prepare and cook a mal for yourself.
  • Individuals who cannot otherwise be serviced by other meal programs. (We do not compete with Meals on Wheels or Senior Nutrition Sites.)
  • You receive Meals on Wheels or visit a nutrition site five days a week, but need meals available on Saturday and Sunday.
  • If you are unsure if you qualify, please call the RSVP Office.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW!
  • Meals are delivered by RSVP volunteers when available, or picked up by a friend or family member.
  • Meals are prepared in RSVP's licensed kitchen located in Marysville. Additional locations may be considered.
  • Meals are not diet specific but are nutritious.
  • Upon referral from specific agencies, age requirement may be lowered. To be eligible, a disability form may be required if you are younger than 60 years of age.

COST

$3.00 per meal for individuals whose gross monthly income is $1,174 or below ($1,579/couple).

$4.00 per meal for individuals whose gross monthly income is $1,175 or above ($1,580/couple).

We are trying to bring the cost of these meals down. To do that, we need to increase the number of people who are ordering Freezer Meals. Please tell you family, friends and neighbors about this wonderful service!!

If you qualify for a state-funded program, there may be little or no charge to you. Check with RSVP for a list of these programs.
